Edge Distance - Steel Work
So, for steelwork we go with general industry guidance for bolts/threaded elements.....This takes the form of 1.5 x diameter.
Example, (assuming Ringanka which is M12) 1.5 x 12 = 18mm edge (24mm if measuring to the centre line).
Also, for steelwork we have a 'specification' of 10mm min thick if blind fixing (i.e. drilling and tapping) or 6mm thick for a true through fix with a washer/nut etc.
For the blid fix (drilled and tapped by the installer) each one (100%) must be load tested to 6kN/60-seconds (service load F) because 'you' have formed the threaded element and you are verifying your work. For through fix, assembled using manufactured components, no need to load test but 100% torque set/tested to 40Nm.
